Hope is a hot air balloon

Hope is a hot air balloon-
Flying to the hot night-
And past the roaring desert-
And never lands- at all-

And in the coldest summers-
Colourful in the night-
He carries us in his basket-
It took you very far-

I’ve heard of the darkest land-
And in the strongest winds-
It’s flame blazing up-
I gave but never took-

This is a successful piece of work because it demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of Dickinson’s version. It is organised into 3 verses and each verse contains 4 lines. The metaphor of the hot air balloon representing Hope is appropriate. My suggestion for improvement is to check your rhyme scheme and compare it to the original. I have also noticed that the lines that need to contain 8 syllables are a little short.
